Fossil Smartwatches

Im in love with this watch. Got a Fossil Q hybrid as a gift and I've been wearing it for a week — I'm hooked. The app is simple and the customization options are great. I wish there was a timer feature accessible via the watch buttons, and a snooze option for alarms. But overall, what Fossil is doing here is super cool. A couple more QoL features would make it perfect. I really think the development team is on the right track.

I decided to give Fossil Hybrid Watch a try as my introduction to smartwatches. So far — I love it! It's simple and provides me with the information I need to stay notified. The app itself is simple, aesthetically pleasing, and intuitive. The hybrid design means it looks like a regular watch but has smart features. I would recommend a Fossil smartwatch to anyone seeking a clean looking watch with minimal features, or anyone looking for an alternative to the Samsung/Apple ecosystem.

Now that they've fixed the bugs that kept my watch from syncing, it works as intended. Everything the app is designed to do, it does well. However, I want to compare daily graphs on a single screen instead of viewing each day individually. I've been wearing my Fossil Hybrid for several years and love the watch itself — especially the Activist model for its battery life (it looks just like a regular watch). The app has potential but Fossil's team needs a stronger vision to make it truly great.

I've had my Fossil watch for a few years and absolutely love it — ringing my phone and the stopwatch features are invaluable. After the recent update, my watch still vibrates for specific contacts but the general phone call and text message notifications stopped working. I depend on the watch to alert me when I'm not near my phone, since I keep it on silent. Please bring back this feature! The hardware is fantastic but this notification bug is really frustrating for how I use the watch daily.

The watch itself is great. The app needs work on syncing — sometimes the step count is only a fraction of what was actually covered. It may catch up on the next sync, or the next day, or not at all. I can see Google Fit is getting its data correctly so it's not my phone or watch. The menu layout is also poor: there's a social media link, an offer to buy products, and then buried below all that are the settings I actually care about. Great hardware, app needs improvement.

App was working great with the watch for the first week. Connected up with ease and the initial experience was really smooth. One day, half my notification settings cleared out. The next day, my watch lost connection and wouldn't reconnect despite following all the troubleshooting steps. I had to uninstall and reinstall the app to fix it. Fortunately, my activity history is still there. Would be 4-5 stars if syncing were more reliable, because the overall concept is really solid.

Really happy with my Fossil Gen 6 and this companion app. The watch face gallery is impressive — tons of choices and changing faces takes seconds. Health tracking syncs reliably and the wellness rings make it easy to visualize daily progress at a glance. The Alexa integration works better than I expected. My one wish is that the app would show more detailed weekly health trend charts. Overall, a solid companion app for a beautiful smartwatch.

Fossil Gen 6 vs. Fossil Hybrid: Which App Features Apply?

The Fossil Smartwatches app works with both main watch families, but the features available depend on which watch you own:

Fossil Gen 6 (Wear OS Smartwatch)

The Fossil Gen 6 runs Wear OS and offers the fullest smart experience:

• 1.28" AMOLED display (416×416 resolution) with always-on mode
• Snapdragon Wear 4100+ chipset — significantly faster than previous generations
• SpO2 sensor (blood oxygen), continuous heart rate monitoring, GPS, NFC (Google Pay)
• 1 GB RAM / 8 GB storage — install Google Play apps directly on the watch
• Fast charging: ~80% in 30 minutes via magnetic USB cable
• Wear OS 3.5 support (updated from Wear OS 2 via OTA on Gen 6 models)
• Via the app: manage tiles (swipeable cards), configure quick settings, capture Wear OS screenshots

The Gen 6 Wellness Edition adds refined wellness metrics and an improved health-focused UI. Both models support Wear OS 3.5 as of Fossil's November 2024 software update.

Fossil Hybrid HR & Gen 6 Hybrid

Fossil Hybrid smartwatches prioritize battery life and classic design:

• Analog hands over an e-ink display — looks like a traditional timepiece
• 2-week battery life (no daily charging required)
• Basic activity tracking: steps, distance, calories, sleep
• Improved HR sensor and SpO2 on the Gen 6 Hybrid
• Amazon Alexa voice assistant on Gen 6 Hybrid (via built-in microphone)
• Via the app: customize button assignments, upload a photo as the e-ink background, configure notification preferences

Hybrid watches rely more heavily on the phone companion app for configuration since the watch itself has limited on-device UI.

Health & Wellness Features

The Fossil Smartwatches app consolidates health data from your watch's sensors into a readable dashboard:

• Step Tracking: Automatic pedometer counts steps, distance, and active minutes throughout the day. Goal rings help visualize progress toward your daily target.
• Sleep Monitoring: Review sleep duration and quality scores each morning. Wear your watch to bed and wake up to a summary of your night's rest.
• Heart Rate Monitoring: Continuous HR data syncs from compatible models (Hybrid HR, Gen 6, Gen 6 Hybrid). View resting heart rate trends over time.
• Blood Oxygen (SpO2): Available on Gen 6 and Gen 6 Hybrid, SpO2 readings can be reviewed in the app to monitor blood oxygen saturation trends.
• Calorie Tracking: Estimated calories burned based on your activity level and profile settings (age, height, weight).

Health data can be synced with Google Fit on Android, providing a unified view alongside data from other fitness apps and services.

Note on Fossil's Smartwatch Future

In January 2024, Fossil announced it would exit the smartwatch market and stop developing new Wear OS and Hybrid models. The company confirmed it will continue supporting existing devices with software updates "for the next few years." The Fossil Smartwatches app remains actively maintained — the most recent update (v5.1.18, October 2025) delivered bug fixes and performance enhancements. If you own a Fossil Gen 6, Gen 5, or Hybrid watch, the app continues to work reliably for day-to-day use.
